ITBP Chief Confirms India-China Face-Offs in Arunachal Pradesh, Congress Targets Centre
ITBP chief Shatrujeet Kapoor confirms ongoing India-China face-offs at several locations in Arunachal Pradesh. Congress leader Pawan Khera accuses the Centre of suppressing information and questions its China policy.
Congress Alleges Government Suppressed Information Since June-July
Congress leader Pawan Khera addressed a press conference and criticised the central government over the developments along the India-China border. He said the ITBP Director General had confirmed a situation that the Congress claimed it had already been aware of.
Khera alleged that the government had been preventing reports about Chinese activities in Arunachal Pradesh from coming to light since June or July. He claimed that the government had made every effort to suppress reports emerging from the state concerning developments along the Indian border with China.
According to Khera, the ITBP chief's statement established that the standoff along the border was still continuing and that Indian soldiers remained positioned against Chinese troops.
'Our Brave Soldiers Remain Firmly Deployed'
Launching a further attack on the central government, Khera alleged that the government neither respects sacrifices nor appreciates acts of bravery. He said that, despite this, personnel of the Indian armed forces continued to stand firm along the border and confront challenges courageously.
The Congress leader highlighted the courage of the soldiers while questioning the government's role. He alleged that while Indian troops were dealing with challenges along the border, the government was attempting to prevent information about developments involving China from reaching the public.
Khera also referred to the 2020 Galwan Valley incident as part of his criticism. He recalled that 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the clash and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's subsequent statement that no Indian territory had been occupied by anyone and that no one was present there.
Khera described the prime minister's statement as a 'clean chit' to China. He alleged that this approach had serious consequences and argued that the government's stance was responsible for China displaying the confidence to undertake such activities from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh.
Congress Questions China's Policy from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh
The Congress has renewed its questions over the central government's China policy, citing the ITBP Director General's statement about the continuing face-offs in Arunachal Pradesh.
By linking the current situation in Arunachal Pradesh with the Galwan Valley clash, Khera alleged that the government had failed to maintain transparency about the actual circumstances along the border. The latest exchange has brought the issue of Chinese activities, the continuing face-offs between Indian and Chinese troops, and the government's handling of border-related information back into the political debate.
