Tiger Shroff Firing Revives Gulshan Kumar Murder Case Linked to Underworld

Tiger Shroff reportedly escaped a firing attack on October 18, reviving memories of T-Series owner Gulshan Kumar’s 1997 murder in Mumbai. The case involved Dawood Ibrahim’s gang, multiple arrests, disputed allegations and a life sentence.

The reported firing on Tiger Shroff’s car on October 18 has brought renewed attention to the fear that once gripped the film industry under underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. While Dawood’s influence is described as having faded by 2026, a new threat has emerged in the form of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The incident involving Tiger Shroff has revived memories of the 1997 murder of T-Series owner Gulshan Kumar, who was shot dead in broad daylight after three assailants opened fire on him.

On October 18, Lawrence Bishnoi’s associates allegedly carried out a deadly attack on Tiger Shroff, firing five rounds at the actor’s car. While Tiger escaped the shooting, the incident recalled the attack on Gulshan Kumar, who was killed after 16 rounds were fired at him.

Gulshan Kumar Was Shot Dead in Broad Daylight

The Gulshan Kumar murder case continues to be remembered as one of the most disturbing crime stories associated with the film industry. On August 12, 1997, the T-Series owner was brutally murdered in Mumbai.

That morning, Gulshan Kumar had visited a temple in the Andheri area of Mumbai to offer prayers. He reportedly visited the temple every day. However, as he stepped outside after offering prayers, three attackers opened fire on him, firing 16 rounds. He died at the scene.

The broad-daylight murder sent shockwaves through the film industry and left people in shock. The attack was believed to have been meticulously planned, with investigators later finding that the assailants had monitored Gulshan Kumar’s movements for nearly two months before carrying out the killing. They conducted reconnaissance before executing the plan.

On August 30, 1997, music composer Nadeem Akhtar Saifi’s name surfaced in connection with the alleged conspiracy. Reports suggested that he had been involved in planning Gulshan Kumar’s murder. A dispute between the two over Nadeem’s album was also discussed as a possible reason behind the killing. However, Nadeem was subsequently found innocent in the case.

In October 1997, Ramesh Taurani, owner of Tips Music, was arrested. Police alleged that Taurani had paid Rs 25 lakh to the killers of Gulshan Kumar. However, the allegations could not be proven in court, and Taurani was acquitted.

In November 1997, Mumbai Police filed a chargesheet in the murder case. According to the police, the plan to kill Gulshan Kumar had been drawn up in Dubai at the office of Dawood Ibrahim’s brother, Anees.

Abdul Rauf Convicted in 2002

The case eventually reached a significant legal milestone in April 2002, when a court convicted Abdul Rauf, also known as Dawood Merchant, of Gulshan Kumar’s murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Abdul Rauf was one of the men who had fired at Gulshan Kumar.

Nearly three decades later, the reported firing on Tiger Shroff’s car has brought the film industry’s history of threats and targeted attacks back into focus. The contrast between Tiger’s escape and Gulshan Kumar’s killing highlights how a shooting incident involving a prominent actor can revive memories of one of Bollywood’s most consequential murder cases.
