Comminent Selects EDX Wireless SignalPro to Scale Smart Grid Deployments Across India

Comminent has selected EDX Wireless SignalPro to strengthen RF planning for India's expanding smart grid deployments. With over 500,000 Wi-SUN modules shipped, the Bengaluru-based company is preparing to expand into global AMI markets.

Comminent Pvt Ltd, a Bengaluru-based developer of Wi-SUN-compliant IoT communication solutions for smart grids and utility metering, has selected EDX Wireless SignalPro as its radio frequency (RF) network planning software to support its expanding deployment operations across India and its planned entry into global smart grid markets.

The selection comes as Comminent scales its smart grid communication infrastructure, with more than 500,000 Wi-SUN-compliant communication modules shipped and deployments expanding across India. The company develops and supplies open standards-based Wi-SUN RF mesh modules, edge gateways and device management software designed to connect hundreds of thousands of smart electricity meters, water meters and intelligent lighting nodes.

These deployments form part of India's Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), one of the world's largest smart grid infrastructure programmes. As installations expand across diverse urban and rural environments, accurate RF coverage planning has become critical to maintaining reliable last-mile connectivity.

EDX Wireless SignalPro will provide Comminent's network planning engineers with high-resolution propagation modelling, interference analysis and link budget tools designed for the Sub-GHz frequency bands and mesh network architectures used in Wi-SUN Field Area Network (FAN) deployments.

SignalPro offers more than 30 validated propagation models, Monte Carlo simulation capabilities and support for IEEE 802.15.4g-compliant RF mesh topologies. These capabilities are intended to address the scale and complexity of India's national advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) rollout, where coverage prediction directly affects meter-reading reliability and network operating costs.

"India's smart metering rollout is one of the largest wireless infrastructure transformations the world has seen, and the coverage accuracy of our RF mesh network is fundamental to the performance our utility customers expect. EDX Wireless SignalPro gives our engineering team the validated modelling tools to plan deployments with confidence; from dense urban distribution grids to remote rural substations; and to scale that precision as we expand into new markets," said Vikas Kashyap, Director, Comminent Pvt. Ltd.

The partnership builds on EDX Wireless's established presence in utility and smart grid network planning. SignalPro has been used by utility operators, AMI solution providers and smart grid consultants across more than 65 countries over four decades. Its propagation models are validated for challenging RF environments, including electricity distribution networks, underground cable corridors, dense industrial substations and mixed urban-rural service territories, where generic mobile network planning tools may not perform adequately.

With its deployment capabilities established at scale in India, Comminent is expanding into international smart grid markets, including the United States, Japan and emerging energy-transition regions where Wi-SUN is gaining adoption as a national standard for AMI communication.

EDX Wireless SignalPro's established international customer base and multi-regulatory propagation modelling capabilities are expected to support this expansion by providing Comminent's engineering teams with consistent planning tools across different geographies and spectrum regulatory environments.

"Comminent represents exactly the kind of mission-critical deployment environment that EDX Wireless was built for large-scale mesh networks where coverage prediction accuracy directly affects operational reliability and safety. We are proud to support their engineering teams as they scale across India and into global markets, bringing the same propagation modelling rigour that utility network planners have depended on for 40 years," said Anoop Kaur Bowdery, CEO, EDX Wireless Inc.

Comminent Pvt Ltd is headquartered in Bengaluru and specialises in IPv6-compliant, open standards-based machine-to-machine (M2M) communication solutions for smart grids, advanced metering infrastructure, intelligent lighting and water distribution networks. Its portfolio includes Wi-SUN RF mesh modules, edge gateways and AI/ML-powered device management software designed to provide secure, scalable and interoperable connectivity for utility operators in India and international markets.

The company's solutions comply with IS 18010, India's national standard for smart meter RF communication networks. With more than 500,000 modules shipped and international expansion underway, Comminent supports the RDSS programme and is positioning itself as an emerging provider of international smart grid communication solutions.
