Thane Water Cut: Kalwa, Diva and Mumbra to Face 36-Hour Shutdown
Thane water cut: Kalwa, Diva and Mumbra will face a 36-hour shutdown from October 22 to 24. Check affected areas, restoration timings, low-pressure warnings and the latest water stock figures.
The civic body has warned residents that water supply may remain at low pressure for one to two days after services are restored. Residents in the affected localities have been urged to store sufficient water in advance and use it carefully throughout the disruption and recovery period.
According to the TMC, the shutdown will cover all areas of Diva and all areas of Mumbra, except certain parts of wards 26 and 31. In Kalwa, the disruption will affect all areas under the Kalwa ward committee.
The shutdown will also affect Rupadevi Pada, Kisan Nagar No. 2 and Nehru Nagar in the Wagle ward, along with Kolshet Khalcha Gaon in the Manpada ward.
“The water supply shutdown is scheduled to begin at 12 midnight on October 22 and continue until 12 noon on October 24,” an official statement said.
The TMC has cautioned that water pressure may remain reduced for one to two days after the scheduled shutdown ends. The civic body has appealed to residents to cooperate with the administration by avoiding unnecessary water consumption during the disruption and the subsequent recovery period.
The civic administration said the decision to implement a 10 per cent water cut was taken in accordance with a government order. Lower rainfall after the monsoon, the effects of El Nino and the early withdrawal of the monsoon from October 2026 were cited as reasons for the water conservation measures.
The shutdown will affect water supplied by the MIDC's Jambhul water treatment plant to the specified areas of Thane, making advance water storage and careful consumption important for residents during the disruption.
Meanwhile, Mumbai's seven lakes had a cumulative water stock of 90.48 per cent of their total capacity as of October 19. This was about six percentage points lower than the level recorded on the same date last year and nearly seven percentage points lower than in 2024.
With drought conditions prevailing in parts of Maharashtra, the state government has advised civic bodies to adopt water-saving measures, including planning for water availability until August 31, 2027. The planned shutdown in Thane comes amid these broader conservation measures, with affected residents facing a prolonged interruption followed by a period of potentially reduced water pressure.
