Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan's Wagah Border Event Overshadowed by Atif Aslam Song
Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan's Udta Teer promotion at the Attari-Wagah Border took an unexpected turn as Atif Aslam's Tajdar-e-Haram played loudly, while Sara's Golden Temple visit and Nepal's reported ban drew attention.
The incident has attracted attention on social media, particularly because the song playing across the border was ‘Tajdar-e-Haram’, the popular kalam performed by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam. Videos of the event have since circulated online, prompting users to react to the unusual moment during the film's promotional activities.
On Tuesday, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan visited Amritsar and the Attari-Wagah Border as part of the promotions for ‘Udta Teer’. Both actors took the microphone and attempted to address the people gathered there. However, as they began speaking, ‘Tajdar-e-Haram’ started playing loudly over the loudspeakers from the Pakistani side.
Videos circulating on social media show the actors making several attempts to communicate with the audience, but their voices were barely audible over the music. The incident soon became a talking point online, with users sharing reactions and making jokes about the situation. However, it remains unclear whether the music was played deliberately or whether the incident occurred unintentionally.
Before the event, Ayushmann and Sara had also shared a video on social media expressing their respect for the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed along the border. Sara expressed gratitude for the soldiers' courage and sacrifice, saluting them as heroes of the country.
The video shared by the actors did not include the live audio from the promotional event. It was only after other footage emerged that discussions began surrounding the music playing across the border and the actors' attempts to address the audience.
Sara Ali Khan also visited Sri Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple, during her trip to Amritsar. She was seen offering prayers at the shrine and appeared emotional during the prayer ceremony. A video showing her with folded hands while participating in the ardas subsequently went viral on the internet.
The footage from the Golden Temple has also attracted attention on social media. While videos from the film's promotional event have generated discussion, Sara's prayer at the religious shrine has been widely shared online as well.
Meanwhile, the film has encountered a separate development ahead of its release, with reports stating that ‘Udta Teer’ has not been granted permission for release in Nepal.
According to reports, Nepali film critic Samipyaraj Timilsina said the release had been restricted in view of the film's story, which is based on tensions between India and Pakistan.
A report by Nepali website Onlinekhabar stated that provisions in Nepal allow restrictions on films that could damage the image of another country or adversely affect relations with friendly nations. The reported decision has intensified discussion surrounding the film ahead of its scheduled release.
Directed by Aakash Kaushik, ‘Udta Teer’ is being presented as a patriotic comedy. Ayushmann Khurrana plays a Pakistani agent who travels to India on a mission. Following an accident, he loses his memory and is led to believe that he is an Indian agent.
The resulting misunderstandings and mistaken identity form the basis of the film's comedy, with the character finding himself in a series of humorous situations. Sara Ali Khan also plays a key role in the film.
‘Udta Teer’ is scheduled to release on October 23. With its promotional events attracting attention online and reports of restrictions in Nepal emerging ahead of its debut, the film has become a subject of discussion even before reaching theatres.
