Shweta Keswani Backs Shahana Goswami Over Multiple Relationships, Slams Double Standards
Shweta Keswani has come out in support of Shahana Goswami after her remarks about multiple relationships sparked social media criticism. The actress questions society's double standards and discusses open relationships and personal freedom.
Speaking on Siddharth Kannan's podcast, Shweta Keswani shared her views on Shahana Goswami's remarks about having multiple relationships. She said that if Shahana is happy in her life, others should have no problem with her choices.
Shweta Keswani said, "I think Shahana is absolutely amazing. If she can manage relationships with so many people, that's a good thing. Managing even one relationship is mentally challenging. Just imagine what it means to manage five relationships. If she finds happiness in this and has decided to continue, then it is a positive thing for her."
Shweta also questioned why people were so interested in other people's personal lives. She said that instead of commenting on someone else's relationships, people should focus on their own lives.
The actress further spoke about the double standards prevalent in society when it comes to relationships between men and women. According to her, men who have extramarital relationships do not face the same level of criticism as women who choose to live life on their own terms.
Shweta Keswani said, "When a man has an extramarital relationship, nobody says anything. But if a woman is sexually active and decides to live life on her own terms, people immediately criticise her, judge her and call her different kinds of names."
She also questioned why others should be concerned when two individuals mutually agree to pursue their relationship in a different or unconventional way.
Discussing the concepts of open relationships and open marriages, Shweta Keswani pointed out that such arrangements are not new. She explained that some people prefer to establish relationships with others with the consent of their partners.
The actress said, "Open marriages also exist. People attend events that are sometimes called 'chemistry parties', where they meet others and explore new relationship possibilities. Couples go there together and do whatever they feel is right according to their own wishes. I honestly don't understand what is so unusual about this."
She added that if a person and their partner are satisfied with such a lifestyle, there is no reason for them to live according to other people's expectations.
"Why should you live according to other people's terms if you and your partner are happy with this lifestyle? Such people do not live for others; they live for themselves," Shweta Keswani said.
Her remarks have brought renewed attention to Shahana Goswami's statements and the debate surrounding women's personal choices, relationships and the different standards applied to men and women in society.
