Mumbai BMC Announces Diwali Bonus of Rs 33,000 for Employees, Up Rs 2,000
Mumbai BMC has announced a Diwali 2026 bonus of Rs 33,000 for officers, employees and workers, marking a Rs 2,000 increase over last year. The announcement comes as municipal employees await the bonus ahead of the festival.
Following the announcements by Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli and Nashik municipal corporations, the Mumbai civic body has also declared its Diwali bonus for 2026. The announcement is expected to bring relief to thousands of municipal employees as the festival approaches.
The bonus will put a financial burden of more than Rs 300 crore on the civic body's treasury this year. The amount is expected to be credited to employees' bank accounts before Diwali, bringing cheer among the workforce.
Diwali bonuses are considered particularly important for government and municipal employees, who look forward to the additional financial assistance ahead of the festival. Employees of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation had also been eagerly awaiting the announcement of this year's bonus.
Every year, as Diwali approaches, various employee and workers' unions in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation submit demands for bonuses, often proposing substantial amounts. The civic administration subsequently invites the unions for discussions, following which a mutually acceptable amount is finalised. The bonus is traditionally announced after discussions and mediation by the ruling party.
However, this year witnessed a change in the established process, with the municipal corporation itself announcing the bonus amount. The decision has brought an end to the wait among employees, who were keen to know how much they would receive for Diwali.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has announced the bonus for its officers, employees and workers on the occasion of Diwali 2026. Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde is scheduled to hold a press conference today to provide official information regarding the announcement.
Last year, the municipal corporation had provided a bonus of Rs 31,000 to its employees for Diwali. This year, the amount has been increased to Rs 33,000, giving employees an additional Rs 2,000 compared to the previous year.
With municipal corporations across Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Nashik and Mumbai announcing Diwali bonuses, employees have received a financial boost ahead of the festival. Further details regarding the bonus announcement are expected to emerge during the mayor's press conference, which employees are closely watching.
