Dhanbad Railway Division Makes History With First-Ever Promotion Certificates for 24 CLIs
Dhanbad Railway Division awards promotion certificates to 24 newly selected Chief Loco Inspectors in a first for Indian Railways, while a renewed night-time mobile charging ban follows a power bank incident on South Eastern Railway.
The certificates were presented by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Akhilesh Mishra during a safety meeting with Chief Loco Inspectors held at the conference hall of the Dhanbad Divisional Railway Office. With this initiative, Dhanbad has become the first railway division in India to issue promotion certificates to officials selected for the post of Chief Loco Inspector.
Following their selection, all 24 newly appointed CLIs from the Electrical Operations Department underwent specialised initial training at ELTC Gomo from October 17 to 27. The training covered various aspects of their operational responsibilities, including digital brake pattern analysis, data analysis, wheel gauge measurement and analysis, and other essential technical inspection procedures.
During the meeting, DRM Akhilesh Mishra emphasised that safety must remain the first priority in railway operations. He issued guidelines related to safe and secure train operations and advised officials to exercise special caution during the upcoming fog season.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager Mukesh Kumar and Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (Operations) Rajat Kumar Singh, along with all major branch officers of the division, were present at the meeting.
Meanwhile, railway passengers travelling on late-night trains will need to ensure that their mobile phones are fully charged before boarding, as the Railways has ordered a ban on mobile phone charging in trains between 11 pm and 5 am. All mobile charging points in trains will remain switched off throughout this period.
The Railways had issued an order to discontinue mobile phone charging during night hours in 2014. Although the directive remained in effect for a few days, the earlier arrangement was subsequently restored.
The latest order comes in the wake of a recent incident on South Eastern Railway in which a passenger's power bank reportedly burst and emitted smoke. Following the incident, the Railways has directed that the restriction be implemented strictly.
To ensure compliance, railway officials and supervisors will conduct surprise inspections. Special Officer on Duty, Railway Board, Electrical Engineering (General), Shobhit Gupta, has issued an order to all railway zones regarding the implementation of the directive.
The two developments underline the Railways' renewed focus on operational safety, technical preparedness and preventive measures, with special attention to train operations during fog and the risks associated with electrical equipment inside passenger coaches.
