Racist Outburst at Connecticut Supermarket Sparks Outrage After Indian-Origin Woman Told to “Go Back to Your Country”
An Indian-origin woman in Stamford, Connecticut, was subjected to a racist verbal attack inside a supermarket, where she was told to leave the country during a checkout delay. The incident, recorded and widely shared online, led to public outrage and an official statement from the accused’s employer, reinforcing zero tolerance for discrimination.
According to Sarina Gupta, the confrontation began while she was processing returns at a supermarket checkout counter. She stated that as the process was taking longer than usual, she suggested the impatient customer use another register. At that point, the customer allegedly launched an unprovoked verbal attack, instructing Gupta to leave the country and making repeated derogatory remarks, including “Stay out of America” and “Go eat your bacon.” The verbal abuse reportedly continued for approximately five minutes and was fully recorded by Gupta on her mobile phone.
Gupta shared the video on TikTok and Instagram, where it gained significant traction, receiving approximately 39,000 views and 3.6 thousand likes. She described the incident as deeply shocking, stating that she had never previously witnessed such openly expressed hostility in public. She further expressed concern over the implications of individuals holding such attitudes while working with vulnerable populations.
Following public circulation of the footage, the woman involved was identified by online users as Victoria Louise Mason, reportedly employed as a nurse. Her employer, Nathaniel Witherell Nursing Home in Stamford, issued an official statement confirming awareness of the incident. The institution stated that it was “deeply troubled” by the remarks, emphasizing that they do not reflect its values, policies, or organizational culture. The statement further reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy toward hate speech, discrimination, and harassment, and underscored its commitment to maintaining an inclusive and respectful environment.
Public reaction on social media largely supported Sarina Gupta, with users expressing sympathy and condemning the behavior captured in the video.
The incident has drawn attention to rising concerns over public displays of racial hostility and professional accountability in such cases, particularly when individuals are associated with caregiving roles.
