State-Level Kabaddi Player Kidnapped and Beaten to Death in Rajasthan; Seven Named in Murder Case
A 26-year-old state-level kabaddi player from Rajasthan's Jodhpur district was allegedly kidnapped, brutally assaulted, and killed over a suspected personal rivalry. Police have registered a murder case against seven accused and launched multiple operations to arrest those involved in the shocking crime that has sparked widespread public outrage.
According to police, Manoj Bhadu had previously represented Rajasthan at the state level in kabaddi during 2017–18. He completed his Bachelor of Education degree from Udaipur in 2022 and had been preparing for recruitment examinations for the post of Physical Training Instructor.
Investigators believe the murder may have been motivated by revenge linked to an earlier dispute. During the investigation, police found that Manoj had allegedly assaulted a youth identified as Mahendra in the past, leading to the registration of a case at Bilara Police Station. Officials suspect that the accused had been monitoring Manoj's movements for the past eight to ten days before carrying out the attack.
Shivpura Police Station Officer Bhanwarlal Vishnoi stated that both the deceased and the accused belong to Jodhpur district. He said that seven to eight individuals were directly involved in the assault and that multiple police teams have been conducting raids to arrest those responsible.
According to family members, Manoj left for Pali on Thursday night in his Scorpio sport utility vehicle along with two other individuals to purchase a JCB machine. During the journey, they were allegedly intercepted by a group of 20 to 25 men travelling in four to five vehicles. The attackers reportedly forced Manoj out of his vehicle and abducted him in one of their own vehicles, while the two men accompanying him managed to escape.
The family alleged that Manoj was taken to multiple locations where he was repeatedly beaten with sticks and iron rods. After the prolonged assault, the attackers allegedly abandoned him in a critically injured condition near Lamba village in neighbouring Pali district before fleeing the scene.
Manoj sustained severe injuries to his head, legs, and arms. He was initially admitted to a private hospital in Jodhpur before being referred to Mathuradas Mathur Hospital, where he later died during treatment.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Jodhpur Rural, Bhopal Singh, said police received information from the Pali Control Room on Friday morning regarding a deliberately staged vehicle accident near the Shivpura Police Station area. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had actually been assaulted and abandoned near Lamba village. Police personnel immediately shifted him to a hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased's brother, Aman, alleged that the two individuals travelling with Manoj had informed others about his movements, resulting in the attack in the Shivpura area of Sojat.
Following the death, villagers and family members gathered outside the mortuary of Mathuradas Mathur Hospital and staged a protest, demanding the immediate arrest of all those involved in the murder.
After the post-mortem examination was completed, Manoj's body was handed over to his family. Police registered a case against seven accused identified as Shyamlal, Dinesh, Sunil, Mek Singh alias Mainkaram, Somraj, Harbhajan, and Sanwarlal. Multiple police teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend the suspects.
The brutal killing of a young athlete preparing for a public service career has sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting the deadly consequences of long-standing personal rivalries and prompting intensified efforts by law enforcement agencies to bring all accused individuals to justice.
