India’s Global Voice Strengthens as Prime Minister Modi Heads to France and Slovakia Ahead of G7 Summit in Evian
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said India’s participation in the G7 Summit in Evian reflects global trust and its rising stature. Ahead of visits to France and Slovakia, he highlighted India’s role in representing the Global South, strengthening ties with Europe, and contributing to discussions on geopolitics, AI, economic cooperation, and global challenges.
In his departure statement ahead of his official visit to France and state visit to Slovakia, the Prime Minister outlined a packed diplomatic itinerary spanning key European engagements. At the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Modi will undertake an official visit to France from June 13 to 14, 2026, in Nice, followed by engagements in Evian and Paris from June 16 to 19, 2026.
During the Slovakia leg of the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with Prime Minister Fico and explore new avenues of cooperation. He will also meet President Pellegrini. The visit is expected to reaffirm India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Slovakia across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, automobile manufacturing, and railway manufacturing.
Referring to his participation in the G7 Summit, scheduled from June 15 to 17, 2026, Prime Minister Modi stated that India’s presence at the forum reflects the trust placed in the country by its partners and its expanding global profile. He emphasized that this marks the eighth consecutive G7 Summit invitation extended to India.
He further stated that at the G7 Summit, India will not only present its own perspective but will also amplify the voice of the Global South. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the visits to France and the Slovak Republic will deepen India’s engagement with Europe and G7 partners and broaden the scope of international cooperation.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India will participate in the 52nd G7 Summit in Evian, marking its 13th overall appearance at the summit as a partner nation, with Prime Minister Modi attending for the seventh consecutive time. The summit, under the French presidency, comes at a time of significant global geopolitical challenges, with energy security, supply chain stability, and international security under strain.
The Evian summit is expected to focus on geopolitical crises, economic cooperation, artificial intelligence, and developmental partnerships. India is set to contribute to discussions on the evolving situation in the Middle East and the pressing issue of global economic imbalances during the second day of the summit.
Twenty-three years after hosting the 2003 G8 Summit and seven years after the 2019 G7 Summit in Biarritz, Evian is once again set to become a focal point of global diplomacy as world leaders gather to address economic uncertainty and multiple geopolitical flashpoints.
The summit represents a significant moment in India’s expanding diplomatic footprint, reinforcing its role as a key voice in shaping global discourse on pressing international challenges.
