Aryan Verma, a resident of Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, allegedly constructed an elaborate false identity, claiming high-ranking military status despite never serving in the armed forces. The accused had reportedly failed medical entrance examinations twice before initiating the deception.
To support his fabricated persona, he moved around in a modified Tata Harrier vehicle fitted with a fake Army flag and military-style insignia. He was also seen wearing a uniform, carrying a cane and an air pistol, and accompanied by two individuals who posed as National Security Guard commandos. During this period, he also conducted motivational talks, further reinforcing his false identity in public spaces.
Suspicion arose among ex-servicemen who closely observed inconsistencies in his conduct and credentials. Acting on their concerns, they devised a trap at a museum on June 12. Following the operation, Aryan Verma was detained by the Station Commander along with Army troops.
The incident quickly gained attention on social media, where users reacted with amusement and criticism, highlighting the pressures of competitive examination culture in India and the extent of deception attempted in pursuit of recognition. Authorities confirmed that the matter was swiftly contained following military intervention.
The case has drawn significant public interest due to its unusual nature, the scale of deception involved, and the coordinated response that led to the exposure of the impersonation.
