According to reports, the hospital administration acted after receiving complaints regarding the video, which has circulated extensively online over the past several days. Although only a brief excerpt from the hour-long show gained widespread attention, the institution reviewed the matter and constituted a committee to examine the context and content of the remarks.
The Dean of KEM Hospital stated that the institution treats such concerns seriously and appointed a two-member inquiry panel to investigate the incident. The committee reviewed the available footage and interacted with Pawar before submitting a preliminary report. Hospital authorities said the comments appeared inconsistent with the values of dignity, empathy, professionalism, and ethical conduct expected from a medical student.
Sources cited in media reports indicated that several senior doctors at the hospital expressed concern over the remarks because cadavers are voluntarily donated for medical education and are traditionally treated with immense respect by students and faculty members. Members of the medical community argued that making jokes about body donors on a public platform could undermine confidence in the donation process and adversely affect the reputation of the medical profession.
Amid the growing backlash, Sejal Pawar issued a public apology on social media. In her statement, she acknowledged that her remarks had hurt public sentiments and admitted that the clip, when viewed later, could understandably upset people. The hospital has confirmed that Pawar also submitted a written apology.
