Education Minister Orders Immediate Action on Sexual Misconduct Complaints in Schools
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has directed school administrators and education authorities to act immediately on sexual misconduct complaints and report them without delay. She also addressed an ongoing bullying investigation involving a Year Six pupil in Perlis, emphasizing that student safety and protection remain top priorities.
Speaking to reporters after presenting the approval letter for the construction of a new building for SJKC Heng Ee, Fadhlina stressed that education authorities at every level must remain vigilant and responsive to such incidents.
“I want all district education offices to be alert to such cases and not wait until they go viral before taking action,” she said.
The minister rejected claims that action was only taken after allegations surfaced on social media involving a teacher accused of sexually harassing a student in Lawas, Sarawak.
Fadhlina urged members of the public to report such incidents directly to the authorities rather than relying on social media platforms to raise awareness.
“Reporting to the authorities is the action that must be taken. Action must be immediate because children must be protected,” she said.
Addressing a separate case involving allegations that a Year Six pupil in Perlis was subjected to bullying that resulted in serious injuries, Fadhlina said investigations were still ongoing.
“We do not compromise on such matters. The case has been referred to the authorities, and the ministry is also conducting its own investigation,” she said.
The minister’s remarks underscore the Education Ministry’s firm stance on safeguarding students and ensuring that cases involving sexual misconduct and bullying are addressed swiftly through official channels, with the protection and welfare of children remaining the highest priority.
