According to reports, the confrontation erupted when Abhay Yadav, along with several associates, arrived at the spot and allegedly attacked Nitesh Dubey, a resident of Katara. The situation quickly spiralled out of control as both sides engaged in heavy stone pelting. During the escalation, the accused reportedly used crude bombs and fired multiple rounds, creating widespread fear among residents who rushed indoors for safety.
During the firing, Nitesh Dubey sustained a gunshot injury and was left critically wounded. Following the incident, chaos spread throughout the area as residents attempted to escape the violence. Police personnel from Panki Police Station reached the location promptly and shifted the injured Nitesh Dubey to LLR Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
After the incident, police detained the main accused, Abhay Yadav. A video that surfaced on Saturday shows him limping while being escorted out from within the police station premises, drawing significant attention on social media. The visuals have raised further discussion regarding the intensity of the injuries and the aftermath of the violent confrontation.
Local residents stated that the area has witnessed repeated disputes and physical altercations in the past, but alleged lack of strict enforcement action has emboldened anti-social elements. They have demanded increased police patrolling and strict legal action against all involved individuals.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) S. M. Qasim Abidi confirmed that during interrogation of the arrested accused, the names of additional associates have emerged. He added that police teams are conducting continuous raids at suspected hideouts to apprehend the remaining absconding accused and assured that all individuals involved will be arrested.
The incident has highlighted escalating gang-related violence in the area, raising concerns over public safety and law enforcement response.
