Addressing the media, Kharge criticised the Prime Minister's style of public communication, stating that the head of government should focus on resolving national issues instead of making political taunts. He questioned the Prime Minister's credibility and referred to his earlier political slogan associated with a "56-inch chest," asking what had been achieved for the country under his leadership.
Kharge alleged that individuals associated with the Ram Mandir Trust were involved in theft and claimed that the trust had been established under laws enacted by the present government, with its members nominated by the administration. Referring to the controversy surrounding the trust, he said those appointed by the government were themselves facing allegations of wrongdoing.
The Congress president also highlighted the NEET examination controversy, saying that lakhs of students had been pushed into distress after leaving their homes to pursue their education. He alleged that the examination crisis had devastated the futures of thousands of candidates and held the Modi government and the Prime Minister responsible for the situation. According to Kharge, such controversies were being used to divert attention from the government's shortcomings.
Continuing his criticism, Kharge said that a Prime Minister should speak about resolving public issues rather than making remarks that could later invite criticism. He condemned the Prime Minister's statement and urged him to refrain from making such comments in the future. Kharge further claimed that the country's prosperity would remain affected as long as the present leadership continued in office, asserting that real progress would come only after a change in leadership.
Kharge's remarks came in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments made before the commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, where he praised India's growing achievements in the space sector and highlighted the contribution of young innovators.
Addressing reporters, Prime Minister Modi recalled that, shortly before the previous Monsoon Session, an Indian citizen had reached the International Space Station. He also referred to the recent milestone achieved by Indian startup Skyroot Aerospace, describing it as a significant achievement that placed India among a small group of countries where private space ventures had reached such a level of success.
Praising the startup's workforce, the Prime Minister said he had been informed that the average age of the Skyroot Aerospace team was only 28 years. In an apparent swipe at Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Modi remarked that he was referring to 28-year-old innovators who had carried India's flag into space through their achievements and not to any "56-year-old youngster."
The exchange has further intensified the political atmosphere at the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, with the opposition accusing the government of avoiding accountability on major public issues while the Prime Minister continues to highlight India's technological progress and achievements led by the country's young innovators.
