Sonam Wangchuk Taken to Safdarjung Hospital After 20-Day Hunger Strike at Jantar Mantar

Sonam Wangchuk was taken to Safdarjung Hospital after his health deteriorated during a 20-day hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. Police said he was shifted following High Court orders and medical advice. Wangchuk has been protesting since June 28 demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over NEET and other examination paper leak cases.

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was taken to Safdarjung Hospital by police after his health condition deteriorated during his ongoing hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Wangchuk, who had been on a hunger strike for the past 20 days, was admitted to the emergency department for medical treatment.

Police officials stated that Wangchuk was shifted to a government hospital following medical advice and in compliance with the order of the High Court. New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Sharma said that, according to the High Court’s directions and considering Wangchuk’s health condition, he was taken from the protest site to an appropriate government hospital for necessary medical treatment and is currently under medical supervision.

Wangchuk had been observing a hunger strike since June 28, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged paper leak cases in examinations including the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

The activist’s prolonged hunger strike at Jantar Mantar had drawn attention amid his demand for accountability over examination-related issues. His transfer to the hospital following a decline in his health has intensified focus on the ongoing protest and the demands raised by him.
