CJP Alleges Restrictions on Sonam Wangchuk’s Family and Legal Team at Safdarjung Hospital
The Cockroach Janta Party alleged restrictions on Sonam Wangchuk’s family and legal team at Safdarjung Hospital after his transfer from Jantar Mantar during his 21-day hunger strike. The party claimed his wife was denied phone access, medical reports were withheld, and personal doctors and lawyers were not allowed to meet him.
In a post on X, the party claimed that Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, was not permitted to carry her mobile phone inside his hospital room. The CJP also alleged that Wangchuk’s medical reports had not been shared with his family and that his personal lawyers and doctors were not being allowed to meet him.
“Peak dictatorship happening at Safdarjung Hospital by government. Sonam sir's wife is not allowed to take her phone inside hospital room. His medical reports are not shared with the family. No personal lawyers or doctors are allowed to meet,” the party wrote in its post.
In a video shared through the CJP’s official X account, Gitanjali Angmo was heard questioning doctors over the restriction on carrying her mobile phone inside the hospital area. She asked why she was not being allowed to take her phone upstairs and referred to Article 32, stating that it was a fundamental right of an individual.

“Why you are not letting my phone to be taken up? You understand sir, Article 32 as a free individual? Please be professional. This is a fundamental right,” she was heard saying.
She further questioned the hospital authorities, saying, “There is nothing else happening. Why are we not allowed to take our phone upstairs? Why are we not getting a digital copy of the medical report?”
Wangchuk’s Wife Says No Treatment Should Begin Without Consent
Earlier, in a post on X, Gitanjali J Angmo stated that no medical treatment should be administered to Sonam Wangchuk without her approval.
“He is at Safdarjung Hospital. I forbid them from administering anything without my consent. No treatment should start without my consent,” Angmo told news agency PTI.
Activist Sonam Wangchuk was removed from Jantar Mantar early Saturday and taken to VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital as his hunger strike against alleged irregularities in the NEET examination entered its 21st day.
The allegations by the Cockroach Janta Party have raised questions regarding access for Wangchuk’s family members, legal representatives, and personal medical advisers during his hospitalisation. The situation continues to draw attention as Wangchuk remains under medical supervision following his prolonged hunger strike.
