Galgotias University Students Win Top Honours at Global Youth Diplomacy Model United Nations in Malaysia
Galgotias University students Sahil Rana and Amaan Lone brought international recognition to India after winning the Best Delegate and Most Outstanding Delegate awards at the Global Youth Diplomacy Model United Nations in Malaysia. Their achievements, alongside the University's recent global successes, highlight its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, diplomacy and international leadership.
The conference focused on diplomacy, international cooperation, the principles of the United Nations Charter and the Sustainable Development Goals. Delegates from diverse cultural, national and academic backgrounds participated in intensive committee sessions, presenting country positions, negotiating resolutions and addressing complex global challenges through diplomatic engagement.
Representing Galgotias University and India, Sahil Rana, a BA (Hons.) Political Science student from the School of Liberal Education, Class of 2027, received the Best Delegate Award. Amaan Lone, a B.Tech. Data Science student from the School of Computer Science, Class of 2028, was honoured with the Most Outstanding Delegate Award for his exceptional performance throughout the conference.
Competing alongside participants from more than 25 nationalities, both students demonstrated outstanding research capabilities, persuasive public speaking, diplomatic negotiation, confident presentations and critical thinking under pressure. Throughout the proceedings, they articulated the positions of their assigned countries with clarity, responded effectively to challenging questions and presented evidence-based arguments rooted in the principles of the United Nations. Their constructive engagement with delegates from different cultural backgrounds reflected the collaborative spirit of Model United Nations and the importance of international cooperation in addressing global issues.
Sharing his experience, Sahil Rana said that winning the Best Delegate Award among participants from more than 25 nationalities was an immensely proud moment. He said the conference reinforced the importance of thorough preparation and understanding perspectives different from one's own, while expressing gratitude to Galgotias University for encouraging learning beyond the classroom and providing the confidence to represent India on an international platform.
Reflecting on his achievement, Amaan Lone described GYDMUN as a transformative experience that strengthened his ability to think critically, communicate with clarity and remain composed under pressure. He said receiving the Most Outstanding Delegate Award reaffirmed that students from every academic discipline can contribute meaningfully to discussions on global issues and thanked the University and his mentors for their constant guidance and support.

The recognition earned in Malaysia further strengthens Galgotias University's record of international success. At EDVentures 2026, hosted by The Education University of Hong Kong, student teams from the University represented India against 19 teams from 10 countries. Project TACTO secured first place for its inclusive sensory-based coding education solution designed for visually impaired learners, while Tekurious Pvt. Ltd. was selected among the global finalists for its immersive virtual reality-based learning platform.
The University also recorded remarkable success in Apple's Swift Student Challenge 2026, where 18 students from its iOS Development Centre were selected among only 350 winners worldwide. Their applications addressed challenges related to accessibility, education, healthcare, artificial intelligence and augmented reality. Two students achieved the distinction for the second consecutive year, highlighting the consistency of the University's innovation ecosystem.
Further expanding international academic exposure, Galgotias University selected and fully sponsored 16 students for a two-week Graduate Summer Programme at Girton College, University of Cambridge, under the memorandum of understanding between the two institutions. The programme provides intensive learning in frugal artificial intelligence, innovation and entrepreneurship, strategic thinking, global leadership communication, business modelling and executive storytelling. Concluding with a capstone venture pitch, the initiative enables students to gain experience from an internationally respected academic environment, engage with multidisciplinary perspectives and develop solutions to contemporary global challenges.
