The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for 13 states on July 8 as the active southwest monsoon brings heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and winds of up to 85 kmph. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Mumbai and several other regions are expected to witness severe weather conditions and possible disruptions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a widespread weather alert for Wednesday, July 8, as the southwest monsoon remains fully active across the country. Continuous rainfall has intensified conditions in several regions, disrupting normal life and increasing the risk of flooding, strong winds and lightning. The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning across large parts of northern, eastern and central India, with wind speeds expected to reach up to 85 kilometres per hour in some areas.

Delhi is expected to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds ranging between 70 and 80 kilometres per hour. The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 29 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be approximately 27 degrees Celsius.

In Uttar Pradesh, the IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning for several districts, including Mathura, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Kanpur, Jhansi, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ayodhya and Deoria. Strong winds of up to 80 kilometres per hour are also forecast across these areas.

Bihar is also expected to experience severe weather conditions. Heavy rainfall accompanied by winds reaching up to 70 kilometres per hour has been forecast for Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Purnia, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Kishanganj and several other districts.

Rajasthan is expected to receive heavy rainfall between July 8 and July 10. The IMD has issued warnings for Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Udaipur, Banswara, Jodhpur and several other districts, where wind speeds of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour are also expected.

In central India, rainfall activity is expected to continue across Madhya Pradesh. Alerts have been issued for Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, Satna, Rewa, Chhindwara and other districts. Chhattisgarh has also been included in the IMD's multi-state weather alert.

Mumbai is likely to experience intermittent rainfall throughout July 8. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 30 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is forecast at 28 degrees Celsius.

The active monsoon is also expected to affect eastern India. Rainfall and strong winds are likely across West Bengal, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Darjeeling, Cooch Behar and the North and South 24 Parganas districts. Odisha and Kerala have also been included in the IMD's weather alert covering 13 states.

According to the IMD, rainfall is expected to bring a noticeable drop in temperatures across several major cities, providing relief from persistent heat. However, the department has cautioned that intense rainfall may lead to waterlogging, traffic disruptions and hazardous weather conditions in multiple regions, making this one of the most significant monsoon weather events of the season.
