Hockey India Announces 15-Player Sub-Junior National Camp Ahead of Inaugural Men’s Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship in Oman
Hockey India has named a 15-member sub-junior men’s squad for a national camp at Panjab University, Chandigarh, from July 7–18 ahead of the Men’s Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship 2026 in Muscat. All players are U18 Asia Cup gold medallists, preparing under coach Sardar Singh for the new Hockey5s format.
The preparatory camp will take place from July 7 to July 18 at Panjab University, Sector 14, Chandigarh. The selected young athletes will undergo intensive training under the supervision of coach and former India captain Sardar Singh, focusing on adapting to the fast-paced tactical and technical demands of the Hockey5s format while strengthening core skills through structured practice sessions.
All 15 selected players were part of India’s victorious squad at the recently concluded Under-18 Men’s Asia Cup 2026, where India secured the gold medal after defeating Japan 4–1 in the final. The continuity in selection reflects Hockey India’s sustained emphasis on developing a strong pipeline of youth talent capable of progressing into senior-level international competition.
The national camp is designed to prepare the players for the unique requirements of Hockey5s, an abbreviated and high-intensity format of the sport that demands quick decision-making, agility, and tactical awareness. The initiative forms part of Hockey India’s broader long-term development strategy aimed at strengthening the under-18 structure and nurturing future national team players.
Hockey India expressed gratitude to Panjab University for hosting the camp and providing high-quality infrastructure to ensure optimal preparation conditions for the athletes. During the camp’s opening phase, Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Renu Vig visited the training venue, interacted with the players, and extended her best wishes for their upcoming international assignment.
Speaking on the occasion, coach Sardar Singh stated that the camp presents a significant opportunity for young players to represent the country in a new format at an international level. He emphasized that the focus over the two-week program will be on helping athletes understand the specific demands of Hockey5s while continuing to reinforce foundational skills essential for long-term career development. He also acknowledged the support extended by Panjab University in facilitating the camp.
The 15-member squad selected for the national camp includes Karan Gautam, Arman Soreng, Sawan Kumar, Ansh Bahutra, Arshdeep Singh, Ketan Kushwaha, Shahrukh Ali, Rahul Yadav, Romit Pal, Ashish Tani Purti, Akashdeep, Avi Manikpuri, Siddharth Ben, Prahalad Rajbhar, and Ayush Rajak.
This national camp represents a critical step in India’s preparation for the upcoming international tournament, offering the country’s emerging hockey talent valuable exposure to global competition standards in the evolving Hockey5s format, while reinforcing India’s long-term commitment to youth development in the sport.
