The fishermen had departed from Kakinada Fishing Harbour four days earlier for a routine fishing expedition when their vessel encountered a severe mechanical breakdown at sea. As a result, the boat drifted approximately two to three kilometres off the Puri shoreline, leaving the crew stranded in open waters. Facing escalating risk, the fishermen issued a distress alert seeking immediate assistance.
Acting promptly on the emergency call, the Puri Marine Police coordinated a swift rescue operation. A nearby fishing boat operating in the vicinity was directed to the location of the stranded vessel. The rescue team successfully reached the disabled boat, evacuated all ten fishermen, and safely transported them back to shore.
Authorities confirmed that all ten fishermen are in stable condition and safe following the rescue. The disabled fishing vessel is expected to be towed to a secure location for further assessment and recovery operations.
Prior to the rescue, the stranded fishermen had sent video messages to their families requesting urgent assistance, which caused significant concern among relatives in Chintapalli village. The distressing communication heightened anxiety until confirmation of the successful rescue operation brought relief to their families.
The timely and coordinated response by maritime authorities and local fishing support teams ensured the safe recovery of all crew members, preventing what could have developed into a far more serious maritime emergency.
