Millions Gather to Mourn Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran as Anti-Trump Threats Mark State Funeral

Millions attended six days of funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran and other Iranian cities after his death in a United States-backed Israeli airstrike. The events featured anti-Trump threats, an effigy targeting American figures, and renewed tensions as United States-Iran peace talks remain suspended despite an ongoing ceasefire.

Millions of mourners filled the streets of Tehran and other Iranian cities during six days of funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a United States-backed Israeli airstrike on February 28. Iranian state media reported that nearly 12 million people participated in the nationwide mourning events, underscoring a massive public display of support for the country's supreme leadership.

The funeral ceremonies were marked by strong anti-American demonstrations, with protesters directing threats at United States President Donald Trump, journalist Laura Loomer, and political figures including Lindsey Graham. Demonstrators also displayed an effigy during the gatherings, reflecting heightened hostility toward the United States and its allies following Khamenei's death.

The large-scale public mobilization took place as indirect peace talks between the United States and Iran remained suspended. The funeral events highlighted the Iranian leadership's continued defiance despite an existing ceasefire, while negotiations over Iran's uranium enrichment program and missile capabilities remain unresolved.

The six-day funeral ceremonies have emerged as a powerful political statement by the Iranian establishment, combining mass public participation with confrontational messaging at a time of diplomatic uncertainty. The events underscored the deep tensions between Tehran and Washington as both sides continue to face critical negotiations over the future of regional security and Iran's nuclear and missile programs.
