According to the recorded rainfall, Santacruz received more than 1,100 mm of rain over the last eight days, while Lonavala recorded 1,290 mm within 48 hours. The sustained rainfall led to a sharp rise in reservoir storage, with the combined capacity of the seven reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai increasing from between 9% and 17% to 28.92% within just 24 to 72 hours.
The relentless rains also caused flooding in Mumbai, Nalasopara, and Vasai, disrupting normal conditions in several affected areas. Continuous showers persisted across the northern parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Thane, Kalyan, and Vasai-Virar, where heavy rainfall remained active.
The dramatic increase in reservoir storage marks a significant improvement in Mumbai's water reserves, while the continuing heavy rainfall and flooding across the metropolitan region underscore the widespread impact of the ongoing monsoon spell.
