PM Narendra Modi Begins Three-Nation Tour with Indonesia Visit, Focuses on Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific Cooperation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his three-nation diplomatic tour with a visit to Indonesia, where he was welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto. The visit focuses on strengthening the Act East Policy, advancing the MAHASAGAR Vision, enhancing India-Indonesia strategic ties, and promoting cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region through diplomatic and cultural engagement.
Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Modi was received at the airport by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. Members of the Indian community welcomed the Prime Minister with enthusiastic chants in support of India and his leadership. He also witnessed traditional Indonesian cultural performances at the airport as part of the ceremonial welcome. Earlier, after entering Indonesian airspace, the Prime Minister's aircraft was escorted by fighter jets of the Indonesian Air Force.
Ahead of the visit, Prime Minister Modi recalled that India and Indonesia had elevated their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during his first visit to Indonesia in 2018. He noted that this marks his first bilateral visit since the partnership was upgraded and follows President Prabowo Subianto's State Visit to India as the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations in 2025.
Emphasising the long-standing relationship between the two nations, Prime Minister Modi said that India and Indonesia share strong civilisational links and close people-to-people ties. He expressed confidence that the visit would further deepen every aspect of the multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
During his stay in Indonesia, Prime Minister Modi will interact with members of the Indian diaspora and visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta alongside President Prabowo Subianto. After concluding the Indonesia visit, he will travel to Melbourne at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese before proceeding to Auckland for the final leg of his three-nation tour.
The visit underscores India's continued diplomatic engagement with key regional partners and reflects its strategic focus on expanding cooperation across the Indo-Pacific through stronger bilateral partnerships, cultural engagement, and regional collaboration.
