Delhi Jal Board Announces Major Water Supply Disruption Across South, Southeast and Central Delhi Due to Pipeline Interconnection and Maintenance Works
Delhi Jal Board announces major water supply disruption across South, Southeast and Central Delhi due to 1,500 mm pipeline interconnection near Taimoor Nagar drain and Supreme Court–linked directives. Multiple key areas including GK, Lutyens’ Delhi and South Delhi will face low pressure or no water supply during scheduled works and maintenance activities.
According to the DJB, the existing pipeline, currently located near the drain entry point leading towards the Yamuna, will eventually be removed as part of the long-term redevelopment plan. During the ongoing execution phase, residents across south, southeast, and Lutyens’ Delhi are expected to face either complete suspension of water supply or significantly low pressure conditions.
The list of affected areas includes high-security and high-density zones such as Golf Links, Bharti Nagar, Lodhi Estate, Khan Market, Prithviraj Road, Shahjahan Road, Delhi High Court area, Pandara Road, Jor Bagh, Janpath, Kidhwai Nagar, the President’s Estate, and the Safdarjung Airport area.
In addition, water supply is expected to be severely impacted in major residential and commercial catchment zones including Greater Kailash (GK) I and II, East of Kailash, Kailash Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Defence Colony, South Extension, Andrews Ganj, New Friends Colony, Maharani Bagh, Sukhdev Vihar, Okhla Phase I and II, Kalkaji, Govindpuri, Alaknanda, Chittaranjan Park (CR Park), Jamia Nagar, Batla House, Zakir Nagar, Nehru Place, Jasola, Sarita Vihar, Medanpur Khadar, Sarai Kale Khan, Siddharth Nagar, Ashram, Sunlight Colony-1, Hari Nagar Ashram, Jangpura, Nizamuddin, Ashram, and Tughlaqabad along with adjoining areas.
Areas served by the Apollo and Sarita Vihar reservoirs are also expected to face disruptions, including Geetanjali Enclave, Navjeevan Vihar, Saket, Malviya Nagar, Chirag Delhi, IGNOU, and Sarvapriya Vihar.
Further disruptions are anticipated in Asian Games Village, Khel Gaon, Hauz Khas, Gulmohar Park, Green Park, Malviya Nagar, Chhatarpur, Mehrauli, all pockets of Vasant Kunj, Deer Park, and surrounding localities.
Separately, DJB has announced maintenance work on the 1,900 mm South Delhi main supply line of the Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plant. This maintenance will cause an eight-hour suspension of water supply beginning 10 am on July 6.
Localities expected to be affected under this separate maintenance schedule include Kailash Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, CWG Village, Patparganj, Okhla, Zakir Nagar, Batla House, Siddharth Enclave, Bharti Nagar, SPA Hostel, and Rabindra Nagar among others.
The Delhi Jal Board has urged residents across all affected zones to store adequate water in advance and use available supplies judiciously. Water tanker services will be deployed on request in impacted areas during the disruption period through local DJB offices and control rooms.
The twin infrastructure interventions underscore the scale of ongoing upgrades in Delhi’s water distribution network, while simultaneously placing significant strain on supply continuity across multiple high-demand regions of the city.
