UAE Launches First National Passenger Train as Etihad Rail Completes Inaugural Fujairah-Abu Dhabi Journey
The United Arab Emirates has launched its first national passenger train under Etihad Rail, completing the inaugural journey between Fujairah and Abu Dhabi in just 105 minutes. The high-speed service offers modern amenities, improved connectivity, complimentary refreshments, and strict onboard safety regulations, marking a new chapter in the UAE's integrated transportation network.
According to a post shared by Etihad Rail on Instagram, passenger operations are currently in the initial phase. The company aims to provide travelers with a modern, comfortable, and secure railway experience, allowing passengers to travel with confidence. Etihad Rail stated that the service is designed to integrate seamlessly with public transportation, making travel between different destinations easier while delivering improved connectivity across the country.
The passenger service between Fujairah and Abu Dhabi is expected to play an important role for residents of the eastern region. The train operates at a speed of 200 kilometres per hour and completes the journey in 105 minutes, or one hour and 45 minutes. The average distance between the two cities is approximately 230 to 250 kilometres.
Each Etihad Rail passenger train has the capacity to accommodate 400 passengers. Once the service becomes fully operational, it is expected to facilitate travel for 10 million passengers. Travelers will be able to choose between two travel categories, Comfort Class and First Class. Both categories will offer reserved seating, complimentary Wi-Fi, folding tables, charging points, and dedicated luggage storage facilities.
Unlike many train services in India, where pantry cars and onboard vendors provide food and beverages, Etihad Rail offers complimentary snacks and beverages with every ticket. Additional food and beverage options will also be available onboard for passengers throughout the journey.
The railway operator has introduced strict onboard regulations to ensure cleanliness and passenger safety. Food items that create excessive mess or produce strong odours are prohibited inside the train, although passengers are permitted to carry their own meals. Smoking and alcohol consumption are strictly prohibited onboard. Similar to railway regulations in India, passengers found consuming intoxicating substances inside the train may face substantial financial penalties.
The launch of Etihad Rail's first national passenger service marks the beginning of a new era in the UAE's public transportation network. By combining high-speed travel, modern passenger amenities, enhanced connectivity, and strict safety standards, the railway service is expected to become a key component of the country's integrated transport infrastructure as operations expand in the coming years.
