Japan Highlights Significance of Traditional Indian Greeting After Modi-Takaichi Exchange

Japan's Cabinet Public Relations Officer highlighted the significance of the traditional Indian greeting after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi exchanged the gesture during the latter's visit to India. The explanation described Anjali Mudra as a symbol of respect, humility, gratitude and groundedness with growing global recognition.

New Delhi: Japan's Cabinet Public Relations Officer on Friday highlighted the significance of the traditional Indian greeting following the exchange between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who greeted each other with folded hands during the Japanese Prime Minister's visit to India.

In a post on a social media platform, the Japanese Cabinet Public Relations Officer explained the meaning of the gesture, known as "Anjali Mudra." The gesture, performed by pressing both palms together in front of the chest, conveys a message of respect and mutual regard.

The traditional Indian greeting has gained worldwide recognition as a symbol of greeting, humility, gratitude and respect. According to the explanation shared by the Japanese official, the gesture represents values that extend beyond cultural boundaries and has become an internationally recognised expression of courtesy and appreciation.
