India Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Stand on Terrorism at UN, Calls for Stronger Global Action
India reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on terrorism at the United Nations General Assembly during the adoption of the Ninth Review of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni called for global unity, accountability, stronger action against terror financing, and the early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism.
Speaking at the General Assembly, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni declared that "A terrorist is a terrorist," underscoring India's position that global counter-terrorism efforts must not be weakened through false equivalences or politically motivated narratives. He emphasized that terrorism should be condemned in all its forms and manifestations without exception.
The Ambassador stated that India has endured cross-border terrorism for decades, making it firmly committed to the principle that terrorism cannot be justified under any circumstances. He called on all United Nations member states to reject double standards in counter-terrorism and ensure that perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors of terrorism are held fully accountable.
Highlighting emerging security challenges, Ambassador Parvathaneni said that disrupting terror financing and preventing terrorists from exploiting emerging technologies must remain among the international community's highest priorities. He stressed that coordinated global action is essential to address evolving threats and strengthen the international counter-terrorism framework.
Reiterating India's long-standing position, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni renewed the country's call for the early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism. He stated that a universal legal framework is vital for enhancing global cooperation and ensuring a more effective and coordinated response against terrorism worldwide. India's intervention at the United Nations reinforced its consistent demand for a unified, uncompromising, and rules-based international approach to combating terrorism in all its forms.
