Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi arrived in New Delhi for a three-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking a significant step in strengthening the India-Japan strategic partnership. The visit is centered on the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, scheduled to take place today at Hyderabad House, where both leaders are expected to discuss a broad range of strategic and economic priorities amid evolving global developments.

The high-level summit will focus on enhancing cooperation in economic security, energy resilience, critical minerals, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and defense collaboration. The discussions are aimed at reinforcing bilateral ties while addressing emerging global challenges through closer coordination in key strategic sectors.

A major priority of the meeting is advancing the shared vision of a strong strategic partnership in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific. Both countries are also expected to emphasize the importance of building resilient supply chains and expanding economic cooperation through business engagement. More than 150 Japanese companies are participating in associated business forums, reflecting growing commercial interest and expanding investment opportunities between the two nations.

The summit builds on the momentum created during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Tokyo in 2025, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. The current discussions are expected to further accelerate that agenda through new agreements and strategic initiatives.
