Bengaluru SIR: 43.81 Lakh Electoral Roll Notices Issued, Only 7.31 Lakh Delivered

Karnataka’s SIR has generated 43.81 lakh electoral roll notices, but only 7.31 lakh have been delivered. Hearings are underway, with the process continuing until October 12 amid changes in polling station details.

Bengaluru: More than 43.81 lakh notices have been generated as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka, but only 7.31 lakh have so far been delivered to electors, according to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office on Friday.

The State has 4,46,38,124 electors on the electoral roll as of September 4, comprising 2.21 crore male, 2.24 crore female and 2,871 transgender electors, the office said.

The notices have been issued to electors whose names fall under the “no mapping” and “anomalies” categories as part of the electoral roll revision exercise, officials said.

According to a statement issued by the CEO’s office, a total of 43,81,143 notices are to be generated, of which 43,81,141 had been generated so far. Of these, 7,31,770 notices have been delivered to electors, while 36,49,371 remain pending delivery. A total of 206 hearings have also been completed.

The hearings commenced on September 3 and will continue until October 12 before Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), the statement said.

At the request of registered and recognised political parties, lists of persons to whom notices have been issued under the “no mapping” and “anomalies” categories will be shared before September 6, the CEO’s office said.

A total of 224 EROs and 4,262 AEROs and Additional AEROs are working during the notice phase.

A second special campaign for the registration of electors will be held on September 19 and 20 in accordance with the instructions of the Election Commission of India.

Following the rationalisation of polling stations, 1,873 new Booth Level Officers have been appointed and their logins created on the BLO App, the statement said.

The CEO held a video conference with district election officers and officials from various departments on September 3 to review voter enrolment. Officials were instructed to undertake Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation activities and organise special campaigns.

The CEO’s office also said it had received several queries from electors who were unable to find their names in the same part of the draft electoral roll where they had been registered earlier.

It clarified that the part number and serial number of electors may have changed due to the rationalisation of polling stations and re-serialisation.

“Electors who are unable to find their names in the previous parts are therefore requested to search using their EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) number on voters.eci.gov.in or through the ECINET mobile application,” it added.

The ongoing notice and hearing process, involving lakhs of electors across Karnataka, will continue through October 12 as authorities work on the electoral roll revision.
