Congress Accuses Modi Government of Failing to Implement PM-DAKSH Scheme

Congress has accused the Modi government of failing to implement the PM-DAKSH skill-training scheme for two years and leaving previous allocations unspent, while questioning whether disadvantaged communities are being targeted after the BJP won 240 Lok Sabha seats in 2024.

Congress on Wednesday, October 21, accused the Narendra Modi government of failing to implement the Pradhan Mantri Dakshta Aur Kushalta Sampann Hitgrahi (PM-DAKSH) skill-training scheme for disadvantaged sections, alleging that the programme has been reduced to paperwork while allocated funds from previous years remain unspent.

The main opposition party questioned whether the BJP was taking revenge on Scheduled Castes (SCs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes after being reduced to 240 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Congress alleged that the Modi government had failed to implement the PM-DAKSH scheme, which was launched to provide skill training and employment opportunities to disadvantaged communities. According to the party, the programme has remained confined to official documents instead of delivering the intended benefits.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress's in-charge of the party's communications department, said on Wednesday that the scheme had not been implemented for two years and that funds allocated in previous years had not been spent. He described the situation as another failure of the Modi government.

Ramesh said the government's work had been reduced to placing advertisements, remaining in the headlines and failing to deliver results. He argued that a scheme intended to equip disadvantaged sections with skills, training and employment opportunities had effectively been confined to paper.

In a social media post, the Congress leader said, “A government that cannot even efficiently implement the PM-DAKSH scheme bearing the Prime Minister's name has no moral right to remain in power.”

Taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ramesh further claimed that the government had lost public confidence and said its “expiry is near”.

He also questioned how long the Modi government would continue to jeopardise the future of Generation Z.

Ramesh reiterated the question of whether the BJP was seeking to retaliate against Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, economically disadvantaged sections, and Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes for the party's reduced tally of 240 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress's allegations have placed the implementation of the PM-DAKSH scheme, the utilisation of allocated funds and the delivery of skill-training and employment opportunities to disadvantaged communities at the centre of its criticism of the Union government.
