Ramayana: Part One OTT Release on JioHotstar After Theatrical Run Confirmed

Ramayana: Part One, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, will release in cinemas on November 5, 2026, before arriving on JioHotstar's pay-per-view service in India.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Part One is set to release worldwide in cinemas on November 5, 2026, during the Diwali period, with an IMAX 3D release planned. The film will subsequently be available on JioHotstar in India through a dedicated pay-per-view offering, allowing audiences to purchase and watch the cinematic adaptation of the epic after its theatrical run.

The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and English. Following its theatrical release, viewers in India will be able to purchase it separately on JioHotstar. The platform said the film will be accessible across supported devices and offered in the highest quality supported by the service. However, the digital release date and pay-per-view price have not yet been announced.

Nita Ambani on Bringing Ramayana to Audiences

Nita M. Ambani, Chairperson of JioStar, said the partnership would extend the film's reach beyond cinema halls and bring the epic's cinematic adaptation to audiences across the country.

Namit Malhotra Explains the JioHotstar Partnership

Namit Malhotra, producer, filmmaker and founder and CEO of DNEG, said Ramayana was conceived as a cinematic experience best viewed on the biggest possible screen, particularly in IMAX 3D. However, he acknowledged that the country's cinema infrastructure cannot provide access to everyone who wants to watch the epic's adaptation in theatres.

“I believe Ramayana should be experienced on the biggest screen possible, in IMAX 3D. But our country’s cinema infrastructure cannot reach everyone who holds this epic close. Ramayana belongs to every Indian, and our ambition must reflect that,” Malhotra said.

Explaining why JioHotstar was selected as the digital partner, he said the platform had demonstrated how technology could connect audiences across India through sports and entertainment.

“JioHotstar has time and again shown how technology can bring a nation together through its sports and entertainment offering. That made them a natural partner to take Ramayana into people’s hands and living rooms, after its theatrical run,” Malhotra added.

Ramayana: Part One Cast, Crew and Production Details

Ramayana is planned as a two-part, live-action cinematic adaptation directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Shridhar Raghavan has adapted the screenplay from Valmiki’s epic.

Prime Focus Studios is producing the film in association with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The project brings together composers Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman, while Ravi Bansal and Ramsey Avery have worked on production design. Terry Notary and Guy Norris have choreographed the action.

The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor and Kajal Aggarwal are also part of the ensemble cast.

Ramayana: Part One will arrive in cinemas worldwide on November 5, 2026, during the Diwali period, before moving to JioHotstar's pay-per-view service in India after its theatrical run. With the digital partnership, the film is set to reach audiences beyond theatres, although viewers will have to wait for confirmation of its streaming availability date and purchase price.
