Following the incident, an offence was registered at the CSMT Railway Police Station under Section 305(C) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the police, the Kalyan unit of the Crime Branch launched a parallel investigation in coordination with the CSMT Railway Police under the guidance of senior officers.
Technical tracking and coordinated investigative efforts led the police to West Bengal, where the accused, identified as 28-year-old Zahir Jamal Shaikh, was arrested, police said.
During the investigation, the police recovered 175.75 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 26,18,500 and cash amounting to Rs 56,500. The total value of the recovered property was Rs 26.75 lakh.
Following legal follow-ups and coordination with the judiciary, the police obtained a court order on October 8, 2026, authorising the release of the seized valuables. The property was subsequently handed back to the complainant under the supervision of senior Railway Police officials.
The recovery and return of the valuables highlight the coordinated efforts of railway police units in investigating thefts aboard trains, tracing accused persons and facilitating the restoration of stolen property to passengers through legal proceedings.
