India Crosses 50-Medal Mark at Asian Para Games 2026 as Simran Wins Second Gold
India crossed the 50-medal mark at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Nagoya as Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Morsingankath won gold and silver, Simran set a Games record for her second gold, and Pranav Desai claimed bronze.
Dilip Gavit won gold in the men’s 100m T47 with a time of 10.69 seconds. India’s Mohammed Morsingankath finished second in 10.72 seconds to take silver, while China’s Kangjun Shi secured bronze with a time of 10.80 seconds.
The closely contested race saw Morsingankath miss the gold medal by just 0.03 seconds. Despite finishing second, he set a new Games record in the T47 category.
Gavit competes in the T46 classification, but the T46 and T47 categories were combined to ensure sufficient participation in the event. Both classifications are for athletes with upper-limb impairments. The T46 classification covers impairments affecting the arm above the elbow or shoulder, while T47 is designated for athletes with impairments affecting the wrist or below the elbow.
Meanwhile, Indian para-sprinter Simran continued her impressive campaign by winning her second gold medal at the Games. After triumphing in the women’s 200m on Tuesday, the 26-year-old secured another gold on Wednesday in the women’s 100m T12 event.
Simran clocked 12.02 seconds to win the race and establish a new Games record. She finished ahead of Iran’s Hajar Safarzadeh, who recorded 12.30 seconds to take second place.
The victory marked a significant improvement on Simran’s performance at the 2023 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, where she won silver medals in both the women’s 100m and 200m events. She has now converted those silver-medal finishes into gold at the 2026 edition.
India also added a bronze medal in the men’s 100m T64 event through Pranav Desai, who clocked 11.96 seconds in the final. Japan’s Kengo Oshima won gold in a Games-record time of 11.39 seconds, while Thailand’s Denpoom Kochrang claimed silver.
With the Indian sprinters securing multiple podium finishes and Simran adding two gold medals to her campaign, Wednesday’s performances pushed India’s total medal count beyond 50 at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Nagoya.
