Mumbai Local Train Horror: Passenger Attacked With Sickle Over Seat Dispute, Railway Police Launch Search
A passenger was allegedly attacked with a sickle inside a Mumbai suburban local train over a seat dispute, days after another train fight led to a passenger’s death. Railway Police have launched a search for the accused involved in the Thakurli station assault while investigations continue into both incidents.
According to preliminary reports, two passengers engaged in a violent dispute over a seat inside the coach during the journey. The argument reportedly escalated, following which three men allegedly attacked one of the passengers with a sickle after the train arrived at Thakurli railway station.
After carrying out the assault, the accused reportedly jumped off the train and fled from the spot. The injured passenger was taken into custody by the Kalyan Railway Police and is currently undergoing treatment at Rukminibai Hospital in Kalyan. The Railway Police have initiated a search operation to trace the accused, who remain absconding. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
The incident comes days after another violent confrontation inside a Mumbai suburban train resulted in the death of a passenger. The earlier incident took place inside the first-class cabin of a Churchgate-Nallasopara rapid local train on Tuesday night.
According to authorities, around 10:42 pm, 22-year-old Mayank Lohar allegedly entered into an argument with another passenger when the train reached Andheri station. Amid heavy rainfall, one passenger had objected to the train doors being kept open. During the confrontation, the accused allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and stabbed Lohar in the abdomen.
Following the attack, the accused escaped by jumping off the moving train at Borivali station before it came to a stop. With assistance from Railway Protection Force personnel and Government Railway Police officials, the severely injured Lohar was taken to a nearby hospital. He was later shifted to a city-managed hospital, where medical professionals declared him dead.
The two incidents have raised serious concerns over passenger safety in Mumbai suburban trains, as Railway Police continue investigations into both cases and efforts remain underway to apprehend those involved.
