MG Motor India Unveils ADAPT Platform to Power Future EV, Hybrid and Range Extender Vehicles in India
JSW MG Motor India has unveiled MG ADAPT, an advanced vehicle platform designed to support EVs, hybrids, plug-in hybrids and range extender electric vehicles. The company will launch its first EV and PHEV models based on this architecture by FY2026-27, strengthening its future new energy vehicle strategy in India.
MG Motor India has confirmed that the first two models developed on the ADAPT platform, including one electric vehicle and one plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, will be launched in India by Financial Year 2026-27.
Unlike conventional vehicle architectures designed around a single powertrain technology, the ADAPT platform has been engineered to accommodate four different propulsion systems. This flexible approach will allow MG to develop electric and hybrid models on a common architecture while offering customers a wider range of electrified mobility options.
The company stated that the platform has been developed to enhance driving range, charging capability, safety, performance and overall driving comfort. The architecture integrates several advanced technologies designed specifically for hybrid vehicles, including a dedicated hybrid petrol engine, a dedicated battery system, India’s first 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit and an Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission.
According to MG, these technologies work together to improve fuel efficiency, deliver smoother performance and provide a more refined driving experience. The integration of multiple powertrain technologies on a single platform is expected to support faster development of future new energy vehicles.
The ADAPT platform also introduces an Intelligent Energy Management System that automatically selects the most suitable driving mode based on road conditions and driving requirements. The system offers four operating modes to optimize efficiency and performance.
The Pure Electric Drive mode enables city driving using only electric power. The Series Hybrid Drive mode uses the petrol engine to generate electricity while the electric motor powers the wheels. The Parallel Hybrid Drive mode allows both the engine and electric motor to operate together for improved performance. The Engine Direct Drive mode is designed to enhance efficiency during highway cruising.
The platform automatically switches between these driving modes without requiring any input from the driver, ensuring a seamless driving experience.
MG ADAPT also supports Range Extender Electric Vehicle technology, in which the wheels are powered exclusively by an electric motor while the petrol engine functions only as a battery charger when required. This technology helps increase driving range while maintaining an electric vehicle-like driving experience.
With the introduction of the ADAPT platform, JSW MG Motor India is preparing to strengthen its new energy vehicle lineup in the Indian market. The company has already confirmed plans to launch an electric vehicle and a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle based on this architecture by Financial Year 2026-27.
The new platform is expected to become a key foundation of MG’s future product strategy as the company continues to expand its range of electrified vehicles and introduce advanced mobility technologies for Indian consumers.
