India’s Bioeconomy Roadmap Targets Global Leadership by 2035 as Biotechnology Drives Health, Food Security and Innovation
Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh highlights India’s biotechnology growth, the BioE3 policy and the roadmap to build a leading bioeconomy powerhouse by 2035. India’s bioeconomy has grown from 10 billion US dollars in 2014 to nearly 195 billion US dollars and is projected to reach 300 billion US dollars by 2030.
Addressing the launch of the roadmap titled “Building India as a Leading Bioeconomy Powerhouse by 2035” in New Delhi, Dr Jitendra Singh said the 21st century belongs to biotechnology and emphasized the growing importance of the sector in shaping India’s economic and scientific progress.
The Minister said India is among the few countries in the world with a dedicated biotechnology policy, BioE3. He stated that the country’s bioeconomy has witnessed significant expansion, growing from around 10 billion US dollars in 2014 to nearly 195 billion US dollars.
Dr Jitendra Singh further said that India’s bioeconomy is projected to reach 300 billion US dollars by 2030, reflecting the sector’s increasing contribution to national development, innovation and industrial growth.
The roadmap, titled “Building India as a Leading Bioeconomy Powerhouse by 2035,” marks a significant step towards strengthening India’s biotechnology ecosystem and establishing the country as a major global force in biotechnology-driven solutions. The initiative highlights the role of biotechnology in advancing healthcare, agriculture, employment generation and sustainable economic development.
