Air India Upgrades Mobile App with Faster Support, Advanced Payment System and In-House Booking Technology
Air India has upgraded its mobile application with faster customer support, improved flight disruption assistance, an in-house booking engine and an advanced payment orchestration system. The airline said the revamped app will enhance booking convenience, enable India-specific digital innovations and support its broader transformation programme after the Tata Group takeover.
The enhanced application focuses on three key areas, including improved support during flight disruptions, upgraded payment capabilities and the introduction of an in-house internet booking engine, according to Air India.
Air India Chief Digital and Technology Officer Satya Ramaswamy said the revamped application would provide passengers with a smoother booking experience and allow the airline to respond more efficiently to customer requirements.
“The enhanced mobile app would provide greater ease of booking and allow the airline to respond more quickly to the needs of the customers,” Ramaswamy told PTI.
In a release issued on Thursday, Air India stated that its mobile application has been downloaded nearly 17 million times and currently serves more than 100,000 users every day.
The airline said that in case of flight disruptions, passengers will receive contextual support for hotel accommodation and transportation assistance directly from the application’s home screen, helping travellers access necessary services more conveniently during operational challenges.
The newly developed in-house internet booking engine will provide a faster and more responsive user interface, improving the overall digital booking experience for passengers.
Explaining the upgraded payment capabilities, Ramaswamy said the new payment orchestration system would enable Air India to introduce several India-specific innovations rapidly while ensuring scalability and transparency in performance.
“Payment orchestration system allows us to do a lot of India specific innovations. It will allow us to deploy the innovations quickly. There will be scalability and transparency of performance,” Ramaswamy said.
Air India, which was acquired by the Tata Group in January 2022, has undertaken an ambitious transformation programme following the takeover. As part of its modernisation efforts, the airline has upgraded more than 140 digital systems to strengthen operations and enhance customer experience.
The latest mobile application revamp marks another significant step in Air India’s ongoing digital transformation strategy, aimed at creating a more efficient, responsive and technology-driven travel experience for passengers.
