National Test House Expands Mumbai Campus with New Advanced Testing Facilities; Union Minister Pralhad Joshi Leads Inauguration and Expansion Drive
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurates new testing facilities at National Test House Mumbai, including a microbiological lab and expansion projects across India. The initiative strengthens quality infrastructure, enhances consumer protection, and supports industrial growth through advanced certification systems and improved testing capacity nationwide.
The government underscored that the expansion aligns with its broader vision of building world-class testing and certification systems aimed at bringing services closer to industries, improving efficiency, and reinforcing the national quality ecosystem. Officials stated that the initiative is designed to enhance accessibility to advanced testing infrastructure across regions while ensuring stronger compliance with quality standards.
During the event, the Union Minister highlighted that a robust testing and certification framework is essential for safeguarding consumer interests, improving product reliability, and enabling ease of doing business. He further emphasized that a strengthened quality ecosystem plays a crucial role in enhancing the global competitiveness of Indian products and advancing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. The Department of Consumer Affairs and the National Test House were acknowledged for their continued efforts in expanding advanced testing capabilities across multiple regions.
As part of the inauguration programme, the Minister formally launched a microbiological testing laboratory at the Mumbai campus of the National Test House. He also inaugurated a shoe testing facility at the Northern Region of the National Test House in Ghaziabad and an NTH-AURIC satellite centre at the NICDC AURIC City in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He inspected the Mumbai laboratories and interacted with scientists, technical experts, and officials to review existing capabilities and ongoing modernization efforts, with discussions focusing on expanding services for emerging industrial sectors.
Senior officials of the Department of Consumer Affairs participated in the event. Secretary Nidhi Khare and Additional Secretary Richa Misra emphasized the critical role of the National Test House in ensuring product quality standards and protecting consumer interests. The Director General of the National Test House presented an overview of its expanding capabilities and outlined a strategic roadmap for future development.
The newly inaugurated facilities are expected to significantly enhance national testing capacity in key sectors, strengthen quality assurance frameworks, and support compliance with both national and international standards, reinforcing India’s broader industrial and consumer protection objectives.
