Addressing an event organised by a private media organisation in New Delhi, the Defence Minister highlighted a dramatic rise in defence exports from 686 crore rupees in the financial year 2013–14 to the current milestone, marking an almost 57-fold increase. He said this surge reflects the strengthening global acceptance of India’s domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem.
Rajnath Singh further informed that India’s annual defence production has also achieved a historic peak of over 1,78,000 crore rupees in the financial year 2025–26, nearly three times higher than the level recorded in 2014–15. He attributed this growth to sustained policy support and expanding industrial capability under the Make in India framework.
Expanding on the country’s broader industrial progress, the Defence Minister cited notable advancements in mobile phone manufacturing, increased automobile exports, growth in indigenous locomotive production, and the continuous strengthening of digital infrastructure. He said these developments collectively reflect the deepening of India’s manufacturing base across multiple strategic sectors.
Referring to the last decade of governance, Rajnath Singh stated that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has systematically addressed shortages, expanded economic opportunities, and transformed administrative work culture. He emphasized that these reforms are laying a strong foundation for a Developed India through the guiding principles of reform, perform, and transform.
The Defence Minister also referred to the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and ongoing efforts to eliminate Naxalism, describing them as decisive measures reflecting the government’s resolve to resolve long-standing national security and governance challenges.
He expressed confidence that India’s continued reforms and industrial expansion will position the country as a leading global manufacturing and defence hub in the coming years.
