Hyberabad Police Rescue One-Month-Old Baby Girl, Bust Interstate Child Trafficking Racket Within 72 Hours
Yyberabad Police rescued a one-month-old baby girl within 72 hours after she was kidnapped from outside Lingampally Railway Station in Hyderabad. Five members of an interstate child trafficking racket were arrested after investigators uncovered a conspiracy involving illegal sale of the infant, online money transfers, and coordinated police surveillance.
The infant was kidnapped at around 2 a.m. on June 30 while her mother, 25-year-old Malan Bourav Shantha Bai, a circus worker from Bidar district in Karnataka, was sleeping on the pavement outside Lingampally Railway Station along with members of her circus troupe. She woke up after hearing the baby's cries and saw two men fleeing with the infant in an autorickshaw. Although she chased the vehicle, she was unable to stop the kidnappers.
Following her complaint, the police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Juvenile Justice Act. Cyberabad Commissioner of Police M. Ramesh said three special investigation teams were immediately constituted to trace the child and identify those involved. Investigators examined hundreds of CCTV cameras across Cyberabad, Hyderabad, and Malkajgiri, tracked the suspects' movements, and solved the case within 72 hours.
Police arrested Mohammed Zuber of Vikarabad and Mohammed Irfan, an autorickshaw driver who has a previous theft case, for allegedly carrying out the kidnapping. The investigation revealed that the two had conspired to abduct a newborn in exchange for money after being approached by Saadequa Maqsood, also known as Naziya, a resident of Neredmet.
According to the investigation, the conspiracy originated when Rehnuma Ali, a 30-year-old woman from Kolkata who had no children, allegedly sought to obtain a baby through illegal means. She reportedly contacted her aunt, Nimmi Jahan Ali, also known as Seema Ali, who resides in Hyderabad. Seema then approached her friend Naziya, who enlisted her fiancé, Mohammed Zuber, to arrange a newborn in return for payment.
While searching for a target, Zuber and Irfan allegedly noticed the complainant sleeping with her infant outside Lingampally Railway Station. In the early hours of June 30, they reportedly hired an autorickshaw belonging to an acquaintance, reached the location, snatched the one-month-old girl from her mother's lap, and took the child to Naziya's residence.
Police said Rehnuma Ali flew from Kolkata to Hyderabad on July 1 along with her aunt to take custody of the kidnapped infant. During the investigation, officers discovered that ₹1.5 lakh had been transferred online to Mohammed Zuber as payment for the illegal sale of the baby. Before the accused could leave Hyderabad with the child, police tracked down their location, arrested all five accused, and safely rescued the infant.
The swift operation by Cyberabad Police not only reunited the one-month-old girl with her mother but also dismantled an interstate child trafficking network allegedly operating through a coordinated conspiracy involving kidnapping, illegal adoption, and financial transactions. The successful rescue within 72 hours highlights the role of coordinated investigation, extensive CCTV analysis, and rapid police action in preventing a major child trafficking crime.
