Speaking to ANI, KC Bokadia revealed that he had signed Shah Rukh Khan for Rs 2 crore for the film. Of this amount, Rs 1.05 crore had already been paid, leaving a balance of Rs 95 lakh. However, the actor expressed his willingness to give up the remaining payment because of the personal bond and mutual respect he shared with the filmmaker.
Recalling the conversation between Shah Rukh Khan and his son, Bokadia said the actor had expressed his feelings without any prompting from the producer.
"We were doing 'Hum Tumhare Hai Sanam'. One day, he told my son that 'Mr Bokadia is a very good man. I will not take any money from him.' I never told him anything. My son said, 'Mr. Khan, there is no such problem. We are men of our words.' Shah Rukh Khan then said, 'You didn't tell me anything, Bokadia sahab. I am speaking this from my own mind. I know that you will sell something and give it to me. I will attend a wedding for 5 minutes and bring the money," KC Bokadia told ANI.
The filmmaker also recalled another meeting with Shah Rukh Khan a few years later, when the issue of the outstanding payment came up again. After a gap of 3-4 years, Bokadia was mixing a film at Empire Studio when the actor arrived and greeted him warmly.
Recalling the interaction, Bokadia said, "One day, after 3-4 years, I was mixing at Empire Studio when Shah Rukh Khan sir came. He was like, 'How are you, Bokadia sahab?' When I asked him about the money, he said, 'What money, sir? Leave it."
The incident highlights how Shah Rukh Khan placed his relationship with KC Bokadia above the pending Rs 95 lakh payment, despite the original agreement being worth Rs 2 crore.
Directed by KS Adhiyaman, 'Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam' featured Shah Rukh Khan alongside Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan. The romantic drama brought the three popular actors together on screen.
