Ashish Vidyarthi Opens Up About Painful Divorce at 55 and Public Backlash
Actor Ashish Vidyarthi reveals the emotional pain of his divorce at 55 after 24 years of marriage, the public criticism he faced following his second marriage to Rupali Barua and how he responded to questions about his personal life.
Ashish Vidyarthi married Rupali Barua at the age of 60. It was his second marriage and attracted considerable public attention. The actor revealed that his decision to move on after his first marriage ended had exposed him to criticism and questions from people. He also spoke about how he dealt with the emotional distress and difficult circumstances during that period.
Ashish Vidyarthi was previously married to actress and singer Rajoshi Barua. Their marriage lasted 24 years, and they have a son named Arth. The couple kept their divorce private, and news of their separation became public only after Ashish announced his second marriage. The actor tied the knot with Rupali Barua in May 2023.
During an interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Ashish Vidyarthi recalled the emotional impact of the separation and described how difficult it was to come to terms with the end of a marriage that had lasted more than two decades.
"After 24 years, when my marriage ended, it was an extremely painful period. I was around 55 years old at the time. You feel as though you have lost, as if everything you had invested in throughout your life has now been completely destroyed," he said.
The actor further clarified that his first marriage ended due to deeply personal reasons and that discussing those circumstances publicly would serve no purpose.
"My relationship ended due to extremely personal reasons. Discussing it will not achieve anything for anyone. Nobody wanted something like this to happen, but it happened anyway," he said.
Ashish also spoke about the criticism he faced following his divorce and second marriage. He explained that people often form strong opinions about someone's personal decisions without understanding the circumstances behind them.
"I am a motivational speaker and an actor. I know very well what people have said about me and how I dealt with that situation. Often, when people criticise someone or express their opinions, they do not have a complete understanding of the actual circumstances, yet they speak with tremendous confidence. In such situations, it is not just one person but an entire crowd imposing its opinions," he said.
Recalling the questions people directed at him, the actor said some questioned why he needed to get married again and why he could not simply live with his partner without formalising the relationship.
"People would ask me, 'Why do you even need to get married? Why don't you just live together?' Some even suggested that my career was over and that I should simply sit back and watch my son grow up. At such times, I had to tell them, 'Please do not write my resignation on my behalf,'" he added.
Through the interview, Ashish Vidyarthi addressed the emotional challenges of ending a 24-year marriage at 55, the public scrutiny surrounding his personal decisions and the criticism he faced after choosing to marry again at 60.
