Trump May Give Sergio Gor a Powerful White House Role After Midterm Election Setback
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor could be in line for a powerful White House position as Trump considers an administration reshuffle after the midterm elections. Reports also raise questions about his Russia connection.
According to a report by the American newspaper The Washington Sun, citing at least 10 White House officials, Gor is expected to take on a more powerful role. The officials said he is already preparing the ground for the period following the midterm elections. Gor is considered a close confidant of Donald Trump and is among the select officials who have direct access to the US President.
According to the report, discussions have gained momentum among officials at the State Department about the possibility of Gor replacing current Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Officials familiar with these discussions said Gor wants a position that would give him repeated opportunities to engage with the public.
Officials involved in internal discussions believe the positions that could be offered to Gor include White House Chief of Staff or Secretary of State.
Meanwhile, some officials at the US State Department believe that Marco Rubio is considering stepping down from his current position and could announce his candidacy for the next presidential election.
Gor, who is currently the US Ambassador to India, has rejected reports suggesting that he could be considered for another position. He has also denied having any interest in taking up a different role.
Speaking to The Washington Sun, Gor described the reports as "complete nonsense". He called Marco Rubio a close friend and described him as the most qualified and successful Secretary of State the United States has had so far. Gor also said he was not interested in any other position.
The White House has also dismissed the reports, describing them as "fake".
Sergio Gor's Russia Connection
Gor's alleged Russian connection could become an obstacle to his prospects of securing a powerful position in the White House. He has faced allegations of concealing his birthplace in Tashkent for years.
This is bad. Sergio Gor (aka Sergei Gorokhovsky / Сергей Гороховский), who has been previously identified as a potential security risk, is now being considered for WH Chief of Staff or even Secretary of State!

There are allegations that Gor's real name is Sergei Gorokhovsky and that he was born in 1986 in Tashkent, in the Uzbek Republic of the then Soviet Union. He moved to the United States during his childhood.
Critics have alleged that he kept details surrounding his birth concealed for years. If Gor enters the race for the position of Secretary of State, he would first have to appear for a hearing before US lawmakers, where questions about these allegations could be raised.
With reports of a possible reshuffle gaining attention, Gor's potential elevation could become a significant development within the Trump administration. However, both Gor and the White House have publicly rejected claims that he is being considered for another position.
