BCCI Invites Applications for India Women's Fielding Coach, Men's Team Head Physio

BCCI has invited applications for India's women's fielding coach and men's head physiotherapist, with November 16 set as the deadline. The move comes amid fielding concerns and recent success against Zimbabwe.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited applications for the positions of fielding coach of the Indian women's cricket team and head physiotherapist of the men's team. According to a media release issued by the board on Tuesday, the deadline for submitting applications for both positions is November 16.

Munish Bali recently took charge as the fielding coach of the women's team. His previous tenure covered India's home ODI and T20 series against Zimbabwe. Fielding, particularly the recurring problem of dropped catches, has remained a concern for the Indian women's team for a long time.

The BCCI has outlined several key responsibilities for the fielding coach, including developing and implementing a comprehensive programme to build a world-class fielding unit. The appointed coach will also be responsible for conducting fielding drills during practice sessions and matches, providing individual coaching to improve players' skills, and assessing each player's fielding performance and contribution under different match situations.

Meanwhile, the board is looking for a replacement for Kamlesh Jain, who served as the men's team's head physiotherapist before resigning from the position in September. The BCCI has made at least 10 years of experience in providing physiotherapy services mandatory for candidates applying for the position. Applicants must also have experience working with elite-level players or teams. Candidates with experience working in high-performance teams will be given preference.

The recruitment process comes after the Indian women's team, led by Smriti Mandhana, completed a clean sweep in both the T20 and ODI series against Zimbabwe. After winning the third ODI on October 28, Mandhana expressed satisfaction with the team's performance against Zimbabwe.

The Indian captain particularly praised the bowlers for restricting Zimbabwe to 131 runs. She also expressed happiness over Vaishnavi's five-wicket haul.

"Winning all three ODIs and making a good start to the championship points cycle for the next World Cup was fantastic. I am very happy with the bowlers' performance, who restricted the opposition to 131 runs. Vaishnavi took five wickets, and I was very happy with her achievement," Mandhana said.

She added that the Indian team's objective was to maintain its dominance throughout the series and that the players had discussed this goal among themselves.

With applications for both coaching and medical positions open until November 16, the BCCI is seeking candidates to strengthen the women's team's fielding setup and fill the vacancy in the men's team's medical support staff.
