Virat Kohli Stuns New Zealand With Stunning Catch as Rohit Sharma Shines in Auckland
Virat Kohli grabbed a stunning diving catch to dismiss Nathan Smith in the Auckland ODI against New Zealand, while Rohit Sharma impressed with a brilliant run-out and Kohli added another catch to his tally.
The incident took place on the third delivery of the 29th over of New Zealand’s innings. Anshul Kamboj was bowling, with Nathan Smith on strike. Kamboj delivered a full-length ball, and Smith attempted to play a drive. However, the ball took the outside edge of his bat and travelled quickly towards the second slip.
Standing in the slip cordon, Virat Kohli dived to his right and grabbed the ball just inches above the ground. Kohli appeared completely confident about completing the catch. The third umpire also reviewed the replays before confirming that it was a clean catch. Nathan Smith was dismissed for just one run off nine deliveries.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma had also made a significant contribution in the field. He played a key role in Daryl Mitchell’s run-out. Rohit quickly moved towards the ball from midwicket and delivered an excellent underarm throw. Wicketkeeper KL Rahul showed quick reflexes behind the stumps and completed the run-out, sending Mitchell back to the pavilion.

Kohli’s celebration after the catch also attracted attention. After completing the dismissal, he ran a short distance and tossed the ball towards the umpire. He then performed his famous ‘Bow and Arrow’ celebration. Kohli also celebrated with his tongue out, smiling alongside a teammate. The Indian batter will turn 38 on November 5 (Thursday).
Kohli continued his impressive fielding display by taking another catch to dismiss Kyle Jamieson. The dismissal came on the first delivery of the 32nd over of New Zealand’s innings. Arshdeep Singh bowled a short-of-length delivery, which Jamieson attempted to play. However, the ball went straight into Kohli’s hands at cover. Jamieson was dismissed for one run off six balls, giving New Zealand their eighth wicket.
With Rohit Sharma contributing to Daryl Mitchell’s run-out and Virat Kohli taking two important catches, both experienced Indian players made their presence felt in the field during the Auckland ODI.
