Kharif Crop 2026: Agriculture Department Issues Advisory to Protect Pulses from Yellow Mosaic Disease

The Agriculture Department has issued a Kharif Crop 2026 advisory for farmers growing moong, moth, cowpea, and urad. The guidelines focus on preventing yellow mosaic disease, identifying symptoms, controlling whitefly transmission, using recommended pesticides, and following safety measures during chemical application to protect crop production.

The Agriculture Department has issued an advisory for Kharif Crop 2026, urging farmers to take preventive measures to protect pulse crops including moong, moth, cowpea, and urad from diseases. The advisory has been released in view of the current weather conditions, with special focus on preventing the spread of yellow mosaic disease in moong crops.

According to the Agriculture Department, yellow mosaic disease can significantly reduce crop production if not controlled in time. The disease also affects other pulse crops such as moth and urad. The major symptoms include the appearance of irregular yellow patches on leaves, leaf curling, deformation of pods, and a reduction in the number of pods. If the infection occurs during the early growth stage of the crop, plant development may stop.

The disease is mainly transmitted by sap-sucking insects such as whiteflies. To control the spread effectively, farmers have been advised to remove infected plants from the field and destroy them.

For effective management of the disease, the Agriculture Department has recommended spraying a solution of 150 millilitres of Imidacloprid 17.8 SL per hectare, or 200 grams of Flonicamid 50% WG, or one litre of Dimethoate 30 EC. Farmers have also been advised to conduct a second spray after an interval of 15 days.
