The Honda Rebel 500 was previously available in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) at a price of Rs 5.12 lakh. With local manufacturing now planned for both the Rebel 300 and Rebel 500, the company is expected to offer them at more accessible price points when they are officially launched.
The Rebel 300 and Rebel 500 share the same bobber-inspired cruiser styling, featuring a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a round LED headlamp, a two-piece seat, and a short, stubby exhaust that reinforces their classic cruiser appeal.
Powering the Rebel 300 is a 286cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing approximately 30hp and 27.5Nm of torque. The Rebel 500 is equipped with a 471cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that generates 46hp at 8,500rpm and 43.3Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. Both motorcycles are paired with a six-speed gearbox and will be offered in both standard and E-Clutch variants.
Honda's E-Clutch technology enables riders to shift gears without operating the clutch lever while still allowing manual clutch operation whenever preferred. The system is designed to enhance convenience without compromising rider control.
Both motorcycles feature a low seat height of 690mm, making them among the most accessible motorcycles available in the Indian market. Combined with an upright handlebar and forward-set footpegs, the riding position is designed to deliver a relaxed cruiser experience. Suspension duties are handled by a conventional telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers. Both models also use identical tyre sizes, measuring 130/90-16 at the front and 150/80-16 at the rear.
The Rebel 300 has a kerb weight of 172kg, while the larger Rebel 500 weighs 191kg. Despite their modern engineering, both motorcycles retain a traditional cruiser philosophy by avoiding advanced electronic rider aids such as riding modes and traction control. However, both models are equipped with dual-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) for improved braking safety.
One of the most notable updates for the India-spec motorcycles is the introduction of a new circular Thin Film Transistor (TFT) display, replacing the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) unit available on international models. The new display is understood to have been developed specifically for these locally manufactured versions.
Honda has not yet announced the prices or launch timeline for either the Rebel 300 or the Rebel 500. The company is expected to reveal additional details in the coming weeks. The introduction of locally manufactured Rebel motorcycles, combined with E-Clutch technology and India-specific updates, marks an important step in Honda's strategy to strengthen its premium motorcycle portfolio in the country while making these cruiser models more accessible to Indian buyers.
