India Develops First Indigenous Expendable Turbo Jet Engine in 350 Kg Thrust Class
India has developed its first indigenous Expendable Turbo Jet Engine in the 350 kg thrust class through DRDO’s Gas Turbine Research Establishment. The achievement highlights India’s advanced engineering capabilities, defence technology progress, precision manufacturing expertise and collaboration between scientific and industrial communities
The Ministry of Defence stated that the development of this complex system based on DRDO’s indigenous design demonstrates the expanding technological strength of India’s defence industry. The Ministry highlighted that the achievement represents the result of years of precision engineering, advanced manufacturing and strong collaboration between India’s scientific and industrial communities.
The Ministry further stated that jet engine technology is considered one of the most sophisticated engineering disciplines globally, requiring exceptional expertise in design, development and manufacturing processes.
The engine was successfully realised and delivered to the Gas Turbine Research Establishment by Azad Engineering on Wednesday. The system was formally handed over by Azad Engineering Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Chopdar to Distinguished Scientist and Director General (Aeronautical Systems) Dr K. Rajalakshmi Menon, and Outstanding Scientist and Director of the Gas Turbine Research Establishment Dr S. V. Ramanamurty.
On the occasion, Defence Secretary and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh congratulated the Gas Turbine Research Establishment and its industry partner, stating that their collaboration had transformed a vision into a historic milestone.
The successful development of India’s first indigenous Expendable Turbo Jet Engine in the 350 kg thrust category reflects the country’s growing self-reliance in critical defence technologies and highlights the combined efforts of scientific institutions and industrial partners in advancing India’s aerospace capabilities.
